User updates iPhone firmware on unlocked iPhone: bricks

September 28, 2007

ZDNet reports on one unfortunate iPhone owner, iPhone Central’s Jonathan Seff, who tried to use their unlocked iPhone after running the latest update from Apple, only to see it report an “incorrect SIM card”. Replacing the SIM with a new one made no difference.

That doesn’t mean it’s totally irreparable, but it’s rather unnerving nonetheless.

Apple and Orange may be at loggerheads over French iPhone deal

September 28, 2007

One generally expects that when the CEO of a company announces a product, that makes it official, but it seems that DIdier Lombard spoke prematurely about the iPhone coming to France, with several news agencies reporting that France Telecom and Apple have yet to agree on what percentage of monthly revenue should be shared.

This means that the Apple France web site is still eerily silent on the matter, with only a month-and-a-bit to go until the UK and Germany get their iPhones.

It’s not clear whether the whole deal is in jeopardy, so we’ll just have to wait until we get a really official announcement - probably from Apple.
