Hackers challenge Apple’s claim of irreparable iPhone damage
September 28, 2007
The iPhone Dev Team has refuted Apple’s claims of irreparable damage to an unlocked iPhone, issuing the statement: “The removal of those firmware problems, which were built in in favour for AT&T, does not cause ‘damage’ as they want to make us believe.”
However, they’ll soon be releasing a tool to re-lock the iPhone should that be necessary.
‘This has nothing to do with proactively disabling a phone that is unlocked or hacked,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide product marketing, said. ”It’s unfortunate that some of these programs have caused damage to the iPhone software, but Apple cannot be responsible for those consequences.”
